The unemployment rate in Worcester County dropped to 7.8% in July, a decrease from the former rate of 8.5% in July 2011. Worcester County Economic Director Bill Badger attributes the decline to an economy made stronger by job creation.

“This is great news, and shows we have made substantial progress in our goal to reduce our high unemployment rate and provide quality job opportunities for the citizens of Worcester County,” Badger said.

Of the 33,290 men and women who make up Worcester County’s labor force, 30,605 are employed. Fewer than 2,605 are unemployed.
